Design Idea Questions

1. Which building typology are you researching?

I decided to go the hospitality route and design a nightclub/lounge/restaurant.

2. Why are you researching this building typology?

I'm researching this because, I love music, particularly electronic music and there are fantastic venues around the world, but New York lacks in this area. The type of venues we have here are much smaller, underground, bar type clubs. I want to make one built for every type of situation.. It would be more than just a nightclub for dancing. It would be more of an entertainment complex, but music would be the focal point.

3. What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research?

Well depending on the spacial limitations I would like to make an epic, large scale dance venue. With a restaurant, lounge and other spaces that would accommodate different party sizes.

 4. What are the examples that you will be researching?

There are literally thousands of clubs that cover the globe. To narrow it down would be difficult. If I were to pic 10 these would be it.

ABC Nightclub - Glasgow, UK

BED Supperclub - Tokyo, Japan
BED Supperclub Exterior - Tokyo, Japan
Club Cielo - New York City

Club Ageha - Tokyo, Japan
Crobar - Miami, Florida (Telesco Associates)

Duplex - Prague
Guvernment - Toronto, Canada

Club Matter - London

Stereo - Montreal
Watergate - Berlin
Watergate Dancefloor - Berlin
Watergate River Seating - Berlin
Zouk Dancefloor - Singapore
Zouk Entrance - Singapore

5. What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?

Well some program elements I see would be a great spot to dance. But not just an open space but something that people can feel good in. Also lounge seating, public and private spaces. Eating areas, kitchens, bars, possibly views of the city, outdoor space.

  1. Night club is too small of a building. It could be part of your building, but you need more

  2. I know a regular nightclub would be too small. But a majority of these spaces eclipse 30,000 square feet, and have 4-5 floors. A room with just a dance floor wouldn't cut it, but a place with 3 dance floors, a restaurant, several lounges, outdoor space and bathrooms etc in the program could easily fill out a building. It's doable...

  3. Just a small correction, the night club design of crobar Miami is the work of www.bigtimedesignstudios.com, not Telesco Associates.
